Around 5:15 p.m. yesterday, just under 3,000 utility customers lost power on Mercer Island in the vicinity of the Mercer Island library. A serviceman was dispatched to the Mercerwood substation at 8903 SE 44th St. by Puget Sound Energy. He found a bunch of Mylar balloons inside the substation. The balloons caused a fuse to open, shutting down the power flow, which resulted in a power outage to our customers. PSE restored power to all customers around 7:30 p.m.
