Mikkel Prim will turn 19 on May 7. At an age when many teens are focused only on their personal needs and/or drama, Prim has boundless heart and energy. Logan Ens, assistant coordinator at the Mercer Island Thrift Shop where Prim volunteers, said Mikkel is very driven to be involved in the community.
Jeff and Lara Sanderson’s goal in opening a new restaurant on Mercer Island is to celebrate community, heritage, culture and, of course, food. When Stopsky’s Delicatessen opens soon, the plan is to modernize and revive the delicatessen by taking the best of traditional Jewish cuisine and mix it up with fresh Northwest ingredients.

Maggie Bennett is best known for her folk music, but this longtime resident of Mercer Island has recently published her first book, “Windy Stories,” which is based on her Ph.D. dissertation. Bennett has traveled most of the world, and has heard many stories.
About 50 protestors gathered outside Republican Congressman Dave Reichert’s office Thursday afternoon. They were protesting Reichert for his recent votes in the U.S. House, which they said were non-supportive of women’s health and a woman’s right to choose. Reichert represents Washington’s 8th Congressional district.
In light of the recent tragedy in Japan, now is a good time to be thinking about being prepared in case of such an event happening at our front door.
To drop in at every senior’s presentation last week was impossible, because several are going on at the same time. Over three days, more than 200 seniors gave presentations on a project of their own choosing. Excited parents roamed the halls looking for the right room to listen as their offspring shared their newfound knowledge.
