Mercer Island will be a greener place to live with the opening of E-Recycle, a new service designed to help you get rid of your electronic waste.
The Mercer Island Local IFF (International Fire Fighters) 1762 will be at the Mercer Island Albertsons store from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24, collecting food for the Mercer Island Food Bank through Youth and Family Services.
After sitting vacant for years, the two acre tract of land at the North end of 76th Avenue S.E,, which at one time was a Safeway store, will be re-developed.
They gathered together to swap war stories, enjoy dollar beers and have a hearty buffet dinner. In what may have been the biggest Veterans Day party yet on Mercer Island, most importantly it was a time to say thank you to the heroes who have guaranteed our freedom over the years.
Mercer Island seems to buck the norm when it comes to the real estate market.
Despite a down month in home sales in King County as a whole compared to last year, sales of homes on Mercer Island for October remained even. October 2010 statistics indicated 25 closed residential sales here; one more than October 2009. Pending residential sales are dead even — 25 in October each year; and there are seven fewer homes on the market this year than in October of 2009. This is compared to King County overall with 1,309 closed sales in October 2010, down by almost 26 percent from 2009.
In August of 2010, 48 new residential/condo listings came on the market on Mercer Island, per NWMLS statistics, compared to 38 during the same month last year. With a total of 201 active listings, inventory has scaled down by 9.05 percent since 2009. Closed sales were up by 35.20 percent as well, with 23 closings in August.
