A showdown between the top two teams in 3A KingCo resulted in Mercer Island taking the lead in the chase for the league title with a 7-2 win over Bellevue, Tuesday.
The Mercer Island volleyball team has picked up where it left off in 2007, when it cruised through the regular season with an undefeated record. Many teams would have quit following a tough 0-3 preseason and finding themselves down 1-0 at halftime during their first regular season game. But the Mercer Island girls soccer team found a spark during the second half of their 2-1 victory against Liberty on Tuesday at Islander Stadium.

The biggest surprise on Thursday during the boys tennis match at Juanita High School was not Mercer Island’s 9-0 victory. It was not the sunny skies that sometimes play hide-and-go-seek in September. The biggest surprise was that the match was the first in-league victory of the season.
