Gov. Chris Gregoire signed a bill on Thursday that put into law a rule which will keep athletes under the age of 18 from returning to an athletic event if they have suffered a concussion without a health care provider’s approval.

The Brothers of the Mercer Island Masonic Lodge held their annual achievement awards program honoring the top Mercer Island High School juniors for academics.
It was, for many, an unsurprising finish. The Islanders soccer team clinched another victory and another shutout, picking up a win during the final regular season game against Juanita last week. With the win, the Islanders put the official undefeated stamp on their 2009 regular season record after a 4-0 win against the Rebels. The team finished the season 15-0-1 overall.
The Mercer Island girls water polo team fell to rival Bainbridge on Friday in a game which determined playoff placing. The final score was 7-4.
Golf is a way of life for Lindsay Chinn and Johnie Freatman. Chinn is a member of the Mercer Island High School golf team, and Freatman plays for the team at The Bear Creek School. Outside of school, neither athlete looks to escape golf as they participate in programs with The First Tee of Seattle, an organization aiming to provide life lessons through the game of golf.
