The Island Sun tanning salon, which was in business for over four years, closed during the first week of August. The space at 3016 78th Ave. S.E. is currently vacant, and at least one person has filed a permit for a new business.
Cory Brewer has been hired as the branch managing broker at RE/MAX Preference on Mercer Island. Brewer grew up on the North end, played football for the Islanders, and brings over seven years of experience as a member of a top-producing realtor team in Issaquah.
A third doctor has joined the Orthodontic Associates of Mercer Island. Dr. Kara McCulloch partners with Drs. Bill McNeill and Carol Knaup at Orthodontic Associates, located at 2817 80th Ave. S.E. An experienced professional, McCulloch received her doctoral degree in dental medicine from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada. Subsequently, in private dental practice, McCulloch focused on pediatric dentistry and care of children with special needs, and took specialty training in orthodontics at the University of Washington.
At first, it might be hard to understand the twin identities of Noah Alper: the businessman behind Noah’s Bagels, and Alper, the man of faith. But last Thursday morning, Alper, the highly successful founder of Noah’s Bagels and other businesses, spoke to students at Northwest Yeshiva High School about how both aspects brought him success and enlightenment.
The Yeshiva students were eager to hear every morsel of advice.
Raised in Brooking, Mass., Alper told the students more than once that he grew up in a Jewish but secular household. However, it was the influence of a father, who was definitely spiritual but somewhat of a nonconformist when it came to any organized religion, that shaped his life.
