On these pages (Feb. 14, 2018), we suggested to the new leadership of the Mercer Island Center for the Arts that if it was truly genuine in its desire to locate an alternative site for its proposed building, it would tear up the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the city to locate the facility in Mercerdale Park.
Some three months later, and with MICA ready to announce its public engagement process, the MOU remains in place.
Why?
Despite overtures and assurances that MICA desires to locate elsewhere, we can only hypothesize that MICA desperately needs free land from the city, and with the existing MOU that’s the easiest and quickest way to get it.
Respectfully, we ask again for the MICA leadership to reveal their intentions with actions, not words — tear up the MOU!
