I have recently been astounded by the poor decisions that are being made by our City Council. In reflecting on this I am reminded of the quotation by Einstein: “ We can’t solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them.”
And that appears to be what our City Council is doing. Trying to solve the problem with the thinking they were using when they created the problem. The residential moratorium is a good example. MICA is another, parking is another, and the list goes on. The data are there. The council is unable to critically analyze it and come to a decision. The best they appear to be able to do is just kick the can down the road.
The recent vote on the residential moratorium is a primary example. We need fresh generative thinking on these issues and we are not getting it. The council needs new thinking and that new thinking comes from its citizens, not the same private constituencies that got them into the existing problems.
