I want to applaud our City Council for its reasoned, civil discourse during the discussion to support the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition at its April 22 meeting. For an issue which has been so emotionally charged in this country, I was impressed with the intelligence and self-restraint shown by our Council members during the debate.

Mercer Islanders should feel grateful that we have people of this caliber who are willing to serve us. Perhaps some in Congress could take a lesson from them.
