This is a follow-up to the May 21 letter by Robert Andrews, titled, “Road diet changes mean more problems on roads.”
I agree with Mr Andrews. Put the “road diet” to a vote and let’s see if this proposal being rammed down our throats has any more support than the plan to tear down all the schools, or the $1 million that the idiot council wanted to remove ivy from the parks a few years ago. Oh wait, the Island residents have already voiced their opposition and you didn’t listen then, so we can’t actually allow this to be brought to a vote. Yes, now I’m beginning to understand.
Of course that’s a foolish notion to think that any of us “little people” out here might actually know what is best. No! That’s why we have a “Citizen’s Panel” (oh boy, there’s a socialist moniker if there ever was one) to do all our thinking for us instead. Only these elite people anointed to the Council have the knowledge and the wisdom to decided what is best for the rest of us. And hey, it’s not their money, so what’s the problem? We cows are here to be milked for whatever scheme they come up with next.
So sit back Mercer Island residents and worry not. As is done at the state and federal level, just allow the local city nannies to take care of you. Don’t resist. Don’t fight it. Everything will work out fine in the end. It has to be true because our leaders said so! And later you’ll have plenty of time to think about what you could and should have done as you slowly travel, single file, down Island Crest Way, trying to get to and from home, day after day after day after day…
