I like to refer to Fran Call’s letter to the Mercer Island Reporter, Feb. 15, 2012, “Gone are the days voters always say ‘yes’ to schools.”
For 48 years I have been one of these “yes”; however, I now believe the School Board is asking too much. Having read letters and comments, pro and con, I am convinced there is a more reasonable solution that will accomplish somewhat the same without tearing down and rebuilding all schools.
I have never in all these years seen so many negative letters and comments to a School Board’s decision to go forward with the bond as is.
My hope is the School Board takes a second, third look at some of the proposed plans by residents with professional knowledge that will cost less and still give our students what they need.
I have been an active school mom with four children and six grandchildren gone and going to Mercer Island schools from kindergarten through high school, and have never heard complaints about “portables,” except from parents. It is dedicated teachers, good programs and equipments, and parents’ support, that make our children succeed and be happy.
