I read the announcement in the Reporter about plans to create a ‘Patriot Plaza’ at the VFW Hall. I think it is a wonderful idea to have a memorial to veterans.
It’s time to ban all fireworks on Mercer Island. Over the past week, many of us watched as locals purchase “Safe & Sane” fireworks near the post office.
I agree with Susan Dykstra regarding the light rail and why it does not work for her. For all her reasons and more, I would not use the light rail.
I am inspired and hopeful. I support background checks for all gun purchases.
No, I will not use light rail. No parking. No bus comes by my house. It would take three buses to get to just one of my downtown destinations.
On behalf of Kiwanis of Mercer Island, VFW Post #5760, and the Mercer Island Masonic Lodge, I would like to thank the City Council for their approval of our permit to sell safe and sane fireworks in celebration of the Fourth of July this year.
Reading about the Councilman and his dog reminded me of an incident last summer. I was walking past the children’s playground in Mercerdale Park and a large, unleashed dog jumped on me from behind.
Mercer Island has a good neighbor! Freshy’s Seafood Market allowed the Mercer Island Learning Lab parents to park in their lot while their children visited the care center patients.
Unfortunately, there are those who think this law applies to everyone except them. Voice control of your pet is not enough. Keep them leashed (it’s the law), unless they are in an approved off-leash area (there is one on the Island).
I want to applaud our City Council for its reasoned, civil discourse during the discussion to support the Mayors Against Illegal Guns Coalition at its April 22 meeting.
A friend of mine is now worried about a $5,000 annual increase in his commuting bill because he has three cars, teenagers and a highly mobile family. I’m sure he’d be happy to see the city spend even several hundred dollars per household on his behalf, and on behalf of all Mercer Island families, if that means not being compelled to pay thousands of dollars a year.
In her article, Judy Clibborn seems concerned about protecting Mercer Island residents and appears to be doing something about it. However, a closer look shows her efforts are nothing more than a deceptive tactic to divide opposition and get the toll passed.
There is something wrong with the law when any snoopy citizen can get my personal information from the city just by asking for it. I received the following email from the City of Mercer Island attorney.
