The new Mercer Island Directory has been delivered. Your IRS taxes are done. Now it’s time to get the blue Seattle Children’s donation envelope off your desk, too.
We are outraged to see another 10 percent increase in our water/sewer/storm drain statement for the January/February 2011 period. Who amongst us is experiencing that kind of increase in our personal revenues?
Thanks to Mr. Jacobson for taking his ridiculous dog-walking ticket to court and to Judge Stewart for throwing out the case.
I am one of the guys who got hit by a car on Island Crest Way over the summer, and…
This is in response to the letter of Feb. 2 which suggested discussing linking S.E. 53rd to West Mercer Way. That same idea was proposed in the mid-1970s and subsequently rejected by both the Planning Commission and the City Council.
Thank you for including the article on K-12 education reform efforts in the Reporter last week. There are so many important bills being considered right now in Olympia that it is a good time to be paying attention. I was, however, discouraged by the news that Sen. Rosemary McAuliffe, the chair of the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee, is refusing to hold a hearing on the bill sponsored by Sen. Steve Litzow and others that would require school districts to use evaluation ratings in determining which teachers to lay off when budget cuts force teacher layoffs (SB 5399, also known as the Riffing bill or the Great Schools bill).
Once again, the Mercer Island community was unbelievable in its support of the MIHS marching band, this time for the students’ trip to London to participate in the New Year’s Day Parade on Jan. 1.

This is great news! I am a student who recently left for college, and I was disappointed that the Safeway moved out because it would be nice to have another grocery store to frequent. It is nice to know that such a large lot is finally getting developed; it seems like such a waste that it has been left empty. I have high hopes that this new project will continue to expand the commerce in downtown.
Your paper has gone from bad to awful to worthless. Please cancel my subscription and refund the remaining balance. Every time I try to give this paper a chance, it disappoints. Have lived on Mercer Island for 45 years and have quit this paper four times in the past. This will be the last.
We saw Randy Gordon’s attack ad against Steve Litzow’s claim to be bipartisan. A clip from a Mercer Island Council meeting discussion on the “road diet” was shown, followed by an ambulance and the insinuation that Steve Litzow had caused harm to Mercer Island children.
