Thank you Councilmembers Wendy Weiker, Jeff Sanderson and Mayor Bruce Bassett for opposing Councilmember Debbie Bertlin’s needless, costly and convoluted name change proposal for the Parks and Recreation Department. Is she suggesting fixing something that’s not broken in an effort to support a private arts organization’s development of Mercerdale Park?

It’s not surprising that staff opposed this wasteful motion and I’m encouraged that you all did too. The Island is facing serious transportation and development issues that require your immediate attention. Council and staff need to stop wasting precious time and resources on frivolous pet projects and proposals.

Let’s hope your fellow council members rethink their positions and join you in defeating this effort.
