Paintings by Bryan Cairns, a former mayor of Mercer Island and current resident of Covenant Shores, are currently being exhibited in the Lighthouse Gallery on the Shores campus.
Cairns is an accomplished artist, though he has no formal training. He took water color classes from Owen Hall in the 2000s, and again this past year at Covenant Shores with his wife.
Cairns was first elected to the Mercer Island City Council in 1997, and served for 10 years. He was selected as mayor in 2006.
Cairns’ name is on the dedicating plaque at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. The acquisition of Luther Burbank Park also took place during his council term. He served on the Mercer Island Library Board for eight years before his council service, and two years after.
