Fans of the NBC show Grimm know to expect the unexpected. The same is true for a Mercer Island artist whose sculpture will be featured on the May 7 episode of the show.

David Rosenzweig, a sculptor and artist who lives on Mercer Island, said he got a phone call out of the blue from the show’s decorator. Turns out the show was looking for art pieces to put in a living room scene for an upcoming episode, and had seen a photo of Rosenzweig’s sculpture Gemini online. They wanted to know if they could use it.

“The episode is called Kiss of the Muse and the muse puts a spell on some guys,” said Rosenzweig. “They were looking for artwork to put in the living room.”

The show, which takes place in Portland, Ore. also films there and the decorator asked if it could be sent down. Rosenzweig said he got the call on a Wednesday, and quickly shipped out the piece to be there in time for filming on the following Monday.

“It looks like it got a lot of airtime,” he said. “They weren’t even sure if they were going to use it, but then it worked out perfectly.”

The statue, Gemini, is of a male and female ballet dancers back to back. Originally the show had planned to rent the piece, but Rosenzweig said they ended up buying it. He said he finished the large version seen on the show several years ago, but has since been working on a smaller version, which would fit on coffee tables for clients.

Though he had only heard of the show before this, Rosenzweig said he’s now started watching, which is in it’s second season. The episode will air on Tuesday, May 7 at 10 p.m. on NBC.
