Mercer Island High School seniors Mitchell Meade, Maya Rudd and James Bellito were named Mercer Island Rotary Club’s students of the month for April.
Meade is involved with the National League of Young Men and Special Olympics. He is the founder and president of Mercer Island High School’s Special Olympics Unified Club, was appointed to the Special Olympics State Youth Activation Committee and redesigned the Special Olympics of Washington website.
At MIHS, Meade is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Link Crew and DECA. He is a commended student in the National Merit Scholarship Program, graduated from Yale Young Global Scholars and holds a 3.98 cumulative GPA. He plays for the Eastside Football Club Premier Soccer, was an MIHS varsity player and junior varsity captain and helps coach the Mercer Island girls soccer team.
Rudd is a dedicated and competitive rock climber on the USA Youth Bouldering Circuit, as well as captain of the Seattle Climbing Team. She is the only female competitor on Mercer Island High School’s Robotics Team, and also its president.
She is a competitive sailor at Seattle Yacht Club and participates in the sailing club at MIHS. She has a 3.88 GPA.
Bellito has earned black belts in both Tang Soo Do and Kenpo karate. He works as a part-time instructor at a karate studio, was the youngest black belt certified instructor in the Washington region and has traveled to China to train in martial arts.
Bellito has been involved with Boy Scouts since the age of 6. He has been promoted to the rank of Eagle Scout, earned the Arrow of the Light and Order of the Arrow awards as a cub scout and served as a patrol leader, senior patrol leader and den chief. At MIHS, Bellito is part of National Honor Society, Islander Crew, Advisory Council, Science Club and Spanish Honor Society.
