The recipients of Rotary International’s “Islander of the Month” February award are Mercer Island High School students Andrew King and Tracey Tomlinson.
King is a member of the National Honor Society, Mercer Island track team and the Mock Trial Club, and is also a student sports video and film manager at MIHS. King volunteers in the community as an assistant speech coach and middle school debate tournament judge with the St. Monica School Speech Team. In the past, he worked as a science camp counselor for the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration; volunteered at Children’s Hospital; participated in research through BioQuest Academy; and won the 2004 Annual Principal’s Award, among other achievements.
Tomlinson is the captain of the MIHS girls gymnastics and golf teams, and a member of the Competing Interests Committee at MIHS. As a community volunteer, she has built houses in Mexico, served dinners at the Union Gospel Mission and worked for service organizations in Los Angeles, in addition to taking on the role of a freshman confirmation mentor at the Mercer Island Presbyterian Church. In her spare time, she enjoys riding horses and skiing. She plans to enroll at a four-year college, travel abroad in France and attend law school.
