One hundred bottles of wine were stolen out of a wine cooler at a residence in the 4500 block of 87th Avenue S.E. on Tuesday, Feb. 8. The residents reported that the burglary happened while they were at home, between 6:25 and 6:40 p.m. Beer and soda were also stolen from a refrigerator in the garage. Suspects' fingerprints were taken from the wine cooler door.

Feb. 1

Theft: A Trek bicycle worth $300 was stolen from Mercer Island High School. The theft was reported in the afternoon and occurred sometime during the past two months.

Car prowl: The driver’s window was broken out of a Honda minivan between 4 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. while it was parked at Mary Wayte Pool, on the east side, in the 8800 block of S.E. 40th Street. The prowler stole a laptop, video camera, checkbook and eight DVDs.

Car prowl: A purse and wallet were stolen out of a Volkswagen Passat between 4:45 p.m. and 5:20 p.m. in the Mercer Island Thrift Store parking lot. The driver’s window was broken.

False information: Police stopped a driver who struck a curb, without headlights, at 10:28 p.m. in the 7700 block of Sunset Highway. The woman, a 31-year-old Seattle resident, gave a false name to police, claiming the name and birth date of her sister. Officers did a thorough investigation into her true identity and she then identified herself. She was cited and booked into the Issaquah Jail. Her daughter was taken into her aunt’s custody.

Feb. 2

Arrest: Police arrested a Seattle man, 35, at 2:37 a.m. in the 8700 block of westbound I-90 who was driving with a suspended license, without insurance, and had one count of failing to transfer his vehicle title within 45 days. His vehicle was released to a passenger with a license.

Fraud: A $265 purchase made on Walmart online was fraudulently charged to a 52-year-old Mercer Island woman’s account on Jan. 31. The incident was reported at 9:42 a.m.

Graffiti: $150 worth of damage was done to the back of the Boys & Girls Club building in the 4100 block of 86th Avenue S.E. at 5:30 a.m. A video of the suspect was recorded.

Feb. 3

Loose cash: A police officer found a $20 bill in his patrol vehicle, caught between the back seat and left door. The bill was not claimed in lost and found, and was put into MIPD property.

Feb. 4

Theft: A kayak worth $400 was stolen from a 79-year-old Mercer Island man’s dock in the 5000 block of 84th Avenue S.E. sometime after Jan. 28.

Weapon discharged: A duty weapon was accidentally discharged at 3 p.m. in a training exercise at 9611 S.E. 36th Street. A 40 caliber bullet was lodged into a wall panel in the Historical Society room.

Malicious mischief: A locking mailbox was broken into sometime after Jan. 31 in the 3600 block of West Mercer Way. Mail might have been stolen.

Arrest: Police stopped a speeding driver, a Seattle man, 35, and arrested him at 10:35 p.m. in the 7600 block of North Mercer Way. He had three misdemeanor warrants, including a Seattle warrant worth $15,000. He was also driving with a suspended license.

Theft: An iPad was stolen from a classroom desk at Mercer Island High School in the 9100 block of S.E. 42nd Street between 12:30 and 1 p.m. It belonged to a 16-year-old student.

Feb. 7

Arrest: A Tacoma man, 31, was arrested at 5:19 p.m. and booked into the Issaquah Jail on a $500 MIPD warrant for driving with a suspended license.

Feb. 8

Arrest: A Seattle woman, 22, was arrested at 4:02 a.m. for violating a protection order in the 9000 block of West Shorewood Drive. She was booked into the Issaquah Jail.

Fall: A Mercer Island woman, 70, was taken to Overlake Hospital after being knocked down by a child on a bicycle in Mercerdale Park at 2:51 p.m. The woman’s knee was cut.

Arrest: A Washington State Patrol narcotics K9 unit was summoned to check out the exterior of a vehicle whose driver had a suspended license, and no ID, at 6:20 p.m. in the 3400 block of 77th Place S.E. Police recognized the man, 25, from previous narcotics contacts. The vehicle sniff proved negative, and the man was released from the MIPD.

Feb. 9

Car prowl: A Toyota Camry’s window was shattered sometime overnight in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive. A bag was stolen from an inside seat. The loss totaled $550.

Arson: An Islander Middle School student, 15, set a fire in a garbage can in the boys’ restroom at 9:25 a.m. Staff members and a student put out the fire. The suspect was seen entering and leaving the bathroom in surveillance camera footage before another student discovered the fire.

Theft: 800 to 1,000 pounds of wire were stolen out of a 56-year-old Mercer Island man’s backyard, along with a white Tappan stove, in the 8800 block of S.E. 44th Street. The loss was $2,875.

Arson: A fire at the South Mercer Play Fields at 8220 S.E. 78th Street was reported at 3:47 p.m. Someone set a trash can on fire next to the restroom building, causing $200 worth of damage. Partially burned homework was found in the men’s restroom, and other burned paper was found in the women’s restroom. There was one witness in the case.

Arrest: A Seattle man, 65, was arrested at 5:02 p.m. in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. for driving with a suspended license. Police found that the suspect was carrying unprescribed pills in his pocket that were later identified as methadone.

Arrest: Police arrested a Mercer Island woman, 44, at her residence for an outstanding King County Sheriff’s Office $3,000 felony warrant from 24 years ago. The warrant, for possession of stolen property in the second degree, was discovered after a vehicle license check. The woman was booked into the King County Jail.
