A 25-foot section of a tan, aluminum handrail was stolen from a stairwell at the WSDOT Mercer Island Tunnel Facility at 2101 72nd Ave. S.E., on the northern edge of the Park on the Lid, sometime between Nov. 2 and Nov. 6. A 62-year-old man reported the missing handrail. The estimated loss was $400.
Nov. 5
Keyed: Someone keyed a 28-year-old Mercer Island man’s Jeep overnight in the 3200 block of West Concord Way. The victim had received two notes on his vehicle in recent months, and one note warned that the victim’s car would be keyed if it was improperly parked. The victim reported all incidents to Shorewood management.
Broken window: A BB gun was used to shoot out the front passenger window of a Kia Motors Corp. Optima vehicle sometime between 3:30 and 5:19 p.m. in the 3000 block of 80th Avenue S.E. The passenger side of the vehicle was also dinged in several places. The estimated damage was $368. A similar incident happened to the victim, a 49-year-old man, on Oct. 22.
Nov. 6
Fraud: A 74-year-old Mercer Island man’s business bank account was fraudulently charged seven times. His company’s debit card number was used on the Internet. The bank will reverse the charges and return the money to the account.
Nov. 7
Arrests: Mercer Island police assisted the King County Sheriff’s Office with a writ of execution at 6:15 a.m. in the 4200 block of East Mercer Way. Police contacted and arrested a 55-year-old homeowner for a third-degree malicious mischief warrant.
A police officer stopped a truck with expired tabs at 6:17 p.m. in the 3200 block of Island Crest Way. The driver, a 41-year-old Seattle man, provided a temporary one-day trip permit. He was arrested for a $5,000 Seattle warrant for driving while intoxicated and was turned over to Seattle police custody.
Cell phone theft: An 89-year-old North end man was billed over $300 for cell phone service that he did not use. His cell phone was missing, and it was either lost or stolen. The victim’s service provider promised to clear the charges if a police report was filed.
Nov. 8
Arson: Someone set a plastic doll on fire in a storage unit in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive sometime after 11:10 p.m. on Oct. 5.
Fender-bender: A South end QFC employee’s Honda Civic was struck by an unknown vehicle while parked in the QFC lot in the 8400 block of S.E. 68th Street. Red paint transferred onto the victim’s vehicle, which also had a small dent. The victim discovered the damage around 3 p.m.
Wallet theft: A 51-year-old woman’s wallet was stolen while she was visiting family in Wisconsin between Oct. 21 and Oct. 23. The victim requested a new debit/credit card from her Mercer Island bank and found that $1,550 had been transferred from her checking and savings accounts into an acquaintance’s bank account.

Fender-bender: A Toyota Camry was struck in the driver’s side sometime overnight while parked, unoccupied, on the side of the road in the 2700 block of 71st Avenue S.E.
Nov. 13
Egged: Two collector cars, a Ford and Chevrolet, were egged in the 2700 block of 76th Avenue S.E. sometime after Oct. 28. The victim, a 58-year-old man, suspected that the incident happened over Halloween. The victim hadn’t checked his vehicles in months. He said he reported the incident in case of potential paint and finish damage.
