A home in the 9700 block of S.E. 40th Street was burglarized while the residents were attending a funeral between 12 and 8:50 p.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 17. The total loss was estimated at $4,730. The victims were listed in an obituary of the deceased person.
The victims’ in-laws, who were also listed, were burglarized between 12 and 9 p.m., in Bothell.
Burglars used a rock, covered in a sock, to break through the 10-by-10-foot window in the back door. The owner had used the sock to clean his barbecue grill.
Shattered glass was spread over the dining room table and floor.
Stolen items included a newly delivered package containing Gap dresses, along with a wallet and credit cards, Burberry watch, navy drop earrings, and various electronics, such as an iPad, external hard drive, HP laptop, two Dell laptops including a Boeing and Bellevue School District laptop, and a Motorola charger.
Police located footprints in the mud along the garage and around the corner behind the house, up to the barbecue and deck. A police officer canvassed the neighborhood but did not find anything, according to the police report.

FRAUD: $1,380 was wired to Boca Chica, in the Dominican Republic, by a 49-year-old woman who thought that her nephew was in trouble. The victim’s mother received a call from someone who claimed to be her grandson. He said that a nonprofit organization was bailing him out of jail and he need money to be wired to him.

COUNTERFEIT MONEY: A man passed two $20 counterfeit bills at Rite Aid between 10:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. He passed one $20 at each Rite Aid location. Three witnesses were present.

THEFT: Jewelry was stolen from a home in the 9000 block of S.E. 50th Street, near Northwest Yeshiva High School, sometime between Aug. 23 and Sept. 13. The jewelry was stolen while the home, for sale, was open for a showing. Missing pieces that belonged to a 37-year-old woman included a diamond tennis bracelet, black pearl pendant, diamond and white gold antique necklace, costume jewelry earrings and fake diamond earrings.

MISSING PERSON: A 38-year-old woman was reported missing at 9 p.m. Her mother, a 69-year-old South end woman, returned home from a six-week trip as her daughter was driving away from the home. The mother reported that her daughter is a paranoid schizophrenic and may be in danger because without taking her medications, she may hear negative voices, according to the police report.

SUSPECT CONFESSES: A 51-year-old Renton man called police and admitted damaging his 36-year-old former girlfriend’s Volkswagen Beetle, the previous day. The convertible top was sliced between 12:30 and 12:40 p.m., Sept. 15, in the 4300 block of 87th Avenue S.E., near St. Monica Parish. The total damage was $2,000. Police arrested the suspect at 11:05 a.m. and booked him into the King County Jail.

DRUGS: Four teenagers climbed into a tree house on private property in the 4200 block of East Mercer Way between 1 and 2:32 a.m. The group was heard making noise and “coughing up” in the tree house, according to the police report. Police identified the youth, all under 21, and took marijuana, a glass bong and grinder into evidence, and told them to stay out of the tree house. Citations were forwarded to a prosecutor.
