The MIHS band enjoyed a successful trip to London and acknowledgments are in order now that the kids are safely back in school! First, the trip would never have happened without the enthusiasm, leadership and dedication of MIHS band teachers, Parker Bixby and Ryan Lane. Their willingness to go above and beyond not only to teach our kids musicianship, but how to develop into solid citizens, is phenomenal.
Second, the students in the marching band represented their school and our community in the most positive light – whether they were performing, sightseeing or waiting for hours at the airport. The chaperones will tell you, the kids were great. Third, as parents of a band member, we are indebted to the teachers and parents who volunteered to watch our students 24/7. Fourth, a small but very dedicated group of parents and teachers formed the London Parade Committee and engineered everything from scholarships, fundraising, publicity, parade practices, and everything else you don’t see that happens behind the scenes of such a large endeavor. Last but definitely not least, the Mercer Island community of parents and others who gave their time, help and financial support with everything from uniforms to raffle and car wash tickets to merchandise-selling to traffic control. Kudos and deep appreciation to all who were involved in this great community effort!
