Well-known Island artist David Fishman, known for his unique photos of botanical subjects, has had “Astilboides tabularis” accepted as one of the 128 pieces on display from the nearly 800 pieces entered into the juried show at the Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton.

Fishman said his work combines “my love of horticulture and photography along with my skills in computer graphics.”

An avid gardener for 15 years, the photographs reflect Fishman’s love for the bizarre and unusual, capturing the unique and unusual growth stages, he explained. Many images are from his own garden, such as a rare Cypripedium Orchid.

Fishman took Best of Show and First Place in the JVH Digital Festival in Bellevue in 2009 and Second Place in the JVH Show in 2008. He has displayed his work at the Mercer Island Community Center in the MIVAL show in 2008 and had a dual show there in 2009. His solo show at the Miller Library at the University of Washington was warmly received. He has an ongoing show at the Mercer Island Physical Therapy lobby and his work can be seen at the Mercer Island library.

The show will run through Jan. 27 at the gallery at 331 Pacific Avenue, Bremerton. The gallery hours are from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 12 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
