Asimakoupoulos will serve as SPU alumni ambassador

Special to the Reporter

Mercer Islander Greg Asimakoupoulos has recently joined the Seattle Pacific University (SPU) staff as alumni ambassador. In this volunteer role, the Class of 1974 member will be helping the Class of 1975 members plan and coordinate their 50-year reunion in June 2025.

He will also be connecting with Seattle-area alumni and churches to help communicate the vision of SPU President Deana Porterfield, listen to their concerns, and foster creative ways to communicate and celebrate SPU memories.

“I’m excited about reconnecting with former classmates and meeting alums I’ve only heard about previously,” said the volunteer chaplain for the Mercer Island police and fire departments. “You can expect to see me at various campus events throughout the year.”

Asimakoupoulos served as director of church relations at SPU following his senior year and before beginning his studies at Fuller Seminary. He served in pastoral ministry for 45 years in California, Illinois and Washington before retiring a year ago. His most recent assignment was full-time chaplain at Covenant Living at the Shores, a faith-based retirement community on Mercer Island.
