Accident: As a car driven by a Mercer Island woman, 49, was turning westbound onto S.E. 40th Street from 88th Avenue S.E., it was hit at 5:05 p.m. by a Seattle man's oncoming vehicle that had not stopped at a stop sign as it was proceeding westbound. The woman had seen the car coming, but thought it would stop at the sign. The woman's vehicle, a Prius, was towed from the scene.

Oct. 21

Accident: A car driven by a Mercer Island woman, 49, turned westbound onto S.E. 40th Street from 88th Avenue S.E. and was hit by a Seattle man’s oncoming vehicle that did not stop at a stop sign as it was proceeding westbound at 5:05 p.m. The woman had seen the car coming, but thought it would stop at the sign. The woman’s vehicle, a Prius, was towed from the scene.

Oct. 22

Arrest: A 54-year-old Mercer Island woman violated a court order and was arrested at 11:10 a.m. in the 8300 block of 84th Ave. S.E. The woman had gone to the petitioner’s residence. She was taken to the MIPD.

Armed robbery attempt: An attempted armed robbery at the Island Salon and Spa, at 7810 S.E. 30th Street, was reported at 7:37 p.m. A Mercer Island woman, 24, and a Kirkland woman, 57, were confronted by an adult male suspect with a semi-automatic pistol in his waistband. The suspect demanded money but the women refused to comply, and he fled. A K9 track did not locate him. Police recovered latent fingerprints from the door used for entry and exit.

Theft: A Mercer Island man, 41, reported at 8:04 a.m. that items were stolen from the Shorewood Apartments common storage area in the 9000 block of East Shorewood Drive. The items included a Hoover vacuum and wooden high-chair, which were found and returned to the owner. A Craftsman toolbox was also stolen. The theft occurred between Sept. 15 and Oct. 23.

Lost wallet: A Mercer Island woman, 51, reported that her wallet was missing and remembered placing her wallet in a shopping cart at the North end QFC on S.E. 28th Street around 10:37 a.m. She returned to QFC and inquired about the wallet, but it had not been turned in to management.

Drug possession: Two 15-year-old Mercer Island teenagers in possession of marijuana were arrested between 3:40 and 3:50 p.m. in the 3200 block of 78th Avenue S.E. The boys had consumed marijuana, and one of them was in possession of a non-prescribed control substance. They were released to their parents after being taken to the MIPD.

Runaway: A Mercer Island woman, 41, reported at 4:22 p.m. that her 15-year-old son had run away in the 3400 block of 77th Avenue S.E. There had been no contact with him in 24 hours. He had tested positive for drugs after being tested by his mother at home. She warned him about going to live with his father out of state, and he told friends he would run away to Seattle. He “took off on foot” on Oct. 22 around 4:30 p.m. after arguing with a cousin.

Broadside: A vehicle driven by a Mercer Island male, 17, broadsided a Seattle man’s car in the middle of the intersection of S.E. 30th Street and 67th Avenue S.E. at 7:20 p.m. The vehicle, going southbound on 67th Avenue, had not yielded the right of way.

Oct. 24

Arrest: A Mercer Island woman, 54, was arrested at 10:35 a.m. in the 8300 block of 84th Avenue S.E. She had repeatedly violated a restraining order placed by a 55-year-old Mercer Island man.

Oct. 25

Theft: Tools were stolen from a construction site in the 4300 block of 92nd Avenue S.E during the weekend of Oct. 23-24. The theft was reported by the site supervisor, a Bellevue man, at 7:48 a.m. The tools, which included a 100-foot air hose, Bosch jigsaw and Bosch electronic palm sander, belonged to workers and the company, and had not been locked up. Various contractors and sub-contractors come and go from the site.

Oct. 27

Fraud: a Mercer Island woman, 38, reported fraud at 9:07 a.m. Bank accounts were opened with her identity and bad checks were written on the accounts in September and October. Collection agencies notified the victim after receiving the bad checks.
