For the third-straight year, the Newport Hills Swim and Tennis Club are Midlakes league champs.
Newport Hills bested runner-up Edgebrook with a combined team score of 1649.5 to take the top spot at the Midlakes Tournament Championships Sunday, July 26 at King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.
The Mercer Island Beach Club finished a few points ahead of the Mercer Island Country Club, scoring 1092 to the Country Club’s 1086.5 to place third, while former longtime champs Mercerwood Shore Club placed eighth overall at 892.5.
Ellie Williams won two events for the Beach Club girls, winning the 15-and-over 100 IM (1:01.71) and 500 free (5:11.01). Alexandra Williams won the girls 13-14 50 free (25.24), and the Beach Club had winners in the 11-12 200 free and 200 medley relays, with the group of Julia Williamson, Kaitlyn Williamson, Grace Olsen and Celia Steinhauer taking the 200 free relay in 1:50.19 and the 200 medley relay in 2:03.22.
Maeve Murdoch won two events for the Country Club girls, winning the 15-and-over 100 free (53.94) and the 50 yard fly (27.06). Leah Fisk set a Midlakes tournament record in the 15-and-older 200 free with a winning time of 1:53.24, while Chloe Mark won the 13-14 girls 200 free in 2:03.42. The Country Club won the 13-14 200 medley relay behind the group of Chloe Mark, Kate Hamilton, Melanie Bantle and Annie Pearse (2:00.88), while the team of Murdoch, Audrey Hixon, Tess Ritcey and Fisk won the 15-and-older 200 free relay (1:42.46).
The Shore Club’s Mari Nielsen won the girls 13-14 50 yard fly (28.24), and the club’s team of Caroline Bohm, Hannah Leahy, Nielsen and Kallie Dimaris won the 13-14 200 free relay (1:48.16).
In the boys competition, Mercerwood Shore Club’s Matthew Williamson won two events, placing first in the 9-10 50 back (34.82) and the 9-10 25 yard fly (14.31).
Beach Club competitors Nate Robinson and Jacob Headrick each won two events. Robinson won the 13-14 100 IM (1:00.44) and the 13-14 50 back (27.24), while Headrick took first in the 13-14 500 free (4:59.28) and the 13-14 50 breast (29.93). Jack Buchan won the 8-and-under 25 back (19.72), and the Beach Club boasted winners in three relay events. The 11-12 group of Joe Cookson, John Wyatt Novak, Carter Whipple and Kieran Watson won the 200 medley relay (2:03.36) and the 200 free relay (1:51.83), while the team of Robinson, Will Cero, Headrick and Killian Riley won the 13-14 200 free relay (1:36.62).
Ian Caldwell won two events for the Country Club, winning the 15-and-older 50 free (21.41) and 100 free (47.53). Drew Fukuda won the 15-and-older 50 breast (28.11), and the team of David Garton, Jack Sieckhaus, Emmett Ralston and Will Catlin won the 9-10 100 medley relay (1:05.16).
