With an excessive heat warning in effect and weather forecasted for the low- to-mid-90s over the next two days, the Mercer Island Community and Event Center will reopen as a cooling center from noon to 7 p.m. today and Friday.
The air-conditioned cooling center at 8236 SE 24th St. is free and open to all. Visitors must fill out a COVID-19 screening form before entering and masks are required while inside the facility.
The city offers the following tips to beat the heat: Drink plenty of water (more than you think), wear sunscreen (check expiration dates) and seek shade often.
