Makena Katherine Holmstrom was born on March 9, 2009 at Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Ala., to James and Lauren (Thompson) Holmstrom. She weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces at 20 inches long.

The baby has an older brother, Jack, and her grandparents are Katherine Kam, of Mercer Island; Andrew Thompson, of Newport Beach, Calif.; and Bruce and Elizabeth Holmstrom, of Vancouver, Wash. Her great-grandparents are Dorothy Caldwell, of Carlsbad, Calif., and Bob and Dorothy Holmstrom, of Vancouver, Wash.

The baby’s mother and godmother, Catherine Chamberlain, graduated from Mercer Island High School in 2001.
