Frank Blethen, publisher and CEO of the Seattle Times, spoke about the paper’s lengthy history at the Rotary Club of Mercer Island’s meeting on Feb. 18 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. Blethen told Rotarians that his family has owned the newspaper continuously since 1896. He has been the publisher for the past four decades and will soon pass the baton to his son. He added that the Seattle Times remains one of the most successful metropolitan newspapers in the nation and currently has around 100,000 subscribers to the print edition and 200,000 subscribers to the online version.
