MI scores 10 goals in 2 games, avenge season opening loss
The Islanders’ season-opening loss to Mount Si was a big blow to its hopes for this season. But the Islanders earned some big-time payback on April 8 when they destroyed the Wildcats 5-0.
The beating began early, when Jed Jacobson fed a pass to teammate Taylor Ward just 13 minutes into the contest. Three minutes later, Derek Johnson found Islander Keegan Tomita for the team’s second goal.
Johnson earned a goal of the game off a pass from Radcliffe McDougald at the 26-minute mark.
Mercer Island took a nearly insurmountable four-goal lead just before halftime when McDougald put the ball into the back of the Wildcats’ goal on a penalty kick at the 37-minute mark.
Islander Nick Ward put the fifth and final goal on the scoreboard on a penalty kick with four minutes left in the game.
Mercer Island defeated Interlake Friday 5-0 behind two goals from Jacobson and McDougald and one from Chris Morris.
The wins gives the Islanders hope for a KingCo championship and renewed momentum heading into the second half of the season. They are now three points out of first with games against the top three teams left to play.
Mercer Island traveled to Issaquah on Monday (after Reporter deadline) and will travel to rival Newport for a big league game tonight at 6:30 p.m.
