Boy Scout Troop 624, of Mercer Island Presbyterian Church, has announced that Brooks Earl King has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. King, 17, is the son of Tom and Christine King, and is entering his senior year at Westminster School in Simsbury, Conn.

King’s Eagle Scout Project supported a local charity called ‘Survive the Night,’ which helps ease the first night away from home for foster care children. King collected brand new materials to assemble overnight bags, which contained pajamas, underwear, toothbrush and paste, and a small stuffed animal. He lead Troop 624 volunteers to collect these materials via a door-to-door drive, as well as a collection stand at the Issaquah Fred Meyer.

King and Troop 624 Scouts assembled 164 overnight bags, which he delivered to Survive the Night for subsequent distribution to fire and police stations, and foster care facilities in King County. During his six years in Troop 624, he participated in many campouts, orienteering events, trips to Camp Parsons, hikes and friendships.
