A suspect who robbed an Island resident at gunpoint on May 10, 2023, faces charges of robbery and assault, according to the Mercer Island Police Department (MIPD) on July 13.
The victim was walking on East Mercer Way when the high-visibility incident occurred. Following the armed robbery, the suspect rapidly fled the Island as officers were dispatched to the scene.
In coordination with Bellevue Police Department, Auburn Police Department, South Sound 911 and Centralia Police Department, Island police detectives were able to identify the suspect, who also currently faces charges from Bellevue police for similar activities in their city.
“Identifying this suspect proved valuable as we linked numerous crimes in our city and neighboring cities, to one person. Resolution like this is gratifying to us because it provides peace of mind to our community,” according to the MIPD.
