Chinese classical dancing and more at festival carnival

Members of the Flying Fairies Dance Center perform the Chinese classical dance Ink Plum Blossom at the inaugural Mid-Autumn Festival Carnival on Sept. 22 at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center. Mercer Island Chinese Association (MICA), in collaboration with the city of Mercer Island, hosted the packed Moon Festival event, which featured traditional Chinese music, dance and martial arts demonstrations; local students displaying their talents; interactive activities such as a tea ceremony, lacquered fan making, lantern making and face painting; carnival games; Chinese treats, including mooncakes, along with other traditional foods and treats that highlight the flavors of the season; and nonprofit booths showcasing their valuable community resources.
