From Jan. 7-15, the city of Mercer Island will conduct a temporary power transfer from the grid to generator power in order to install new electrical equipment at the Island’s reservoir pump station.
The city noted that this process entails water operations staff monitoring pumps, reservoir levels, and the supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system. While some residents may experience temporary fluctuations in water pressure or reduced water flow, the process does not impact water quality or safety, the city added.
“We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to improve the city’s water infrastructure,” reads a city post regarding the reservoir standby generator replacement project.
According to the city’s website, “This project will replace the existing generator, currently located inside the reservoir booster pump station, and relocate the generator outside the building in a self-contained enclosure. This new configuration will provide more efficient operations and reduce noise output when the system is running.”
McClure and Son’s is installing the new electrical panel and connecting the new generator to the station; the new generator should be fully operational by the end of January, the project page notes.
