City council issues four proclamations at meeting

Mercer Island City Council members passed a quartet of proclamations at their Sept. 5 special hybrid meeting.

Council recognizes September as National Preparedness Month, which focuses on the importance of emergency preparedness and reminds communities to prepare for disasters.

National Recovery Month on Mercer Island raises awareness that recovery is for “Every Person, Every Family, Every Community” and promotes resources for prevention, intervention and treatment on Mercer Island.

Another proclamation recognizes Sept. 21 as Peace Day on Mercer Island. Established in 1981 by a unanimous United Nations resolution, the International Day of Peace provides a globally-shared date for communities to commit to peace above all differences.

Council proclaimed Sept. 23 as No Islander Goes Hungry Day to address the city’s campaign that is aimed at increasing awareness of local food insecurity, the national Hunger Action Month, and the regional Mayor’s Day of Concern for the Hungry.
