After the update by King County elections officials at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Islander Debbie Bertlin has widened her lead over incumbent El Jahncke in the race for Mercer Island City Council position 6. Nearly 60 percent of the votes cast were for Bertlin. The tally as of Nov. 10 in the afternoon showed Bertlin ahead with 3,923 votes, more than 1,200 votes over Jahncke’s total of 2,705. Election officials numbers indicate that they have counted 6,600 ballots to date, representing 45 percent of Island registered voters.

The King County elections office is closed on Nov. 11 for the Veterans Day holiday. The next update will come on Monday, Nov. 14.

The three City Council incumbents running to retain their seats and unopposed are Jane Meyer Brahm, Mike Cero and Bruce Bassett. Each has collected more than 97 percent of the votes cast. Each position has roughly 100 write-in votes cast for others.

In the King County Council election for District 6, incumbent Jane Hague retains a solid lead over Island challenger Richard Mitchell as of Thursday, Nov. 10. Hague has 54 percent of the votes, while Mitchell has 46 percent.
