After taking an August recess, the Mercer Island City Council will return to business with its next regular hybrid meeting at 5 p.m. on Sept. 6.
The virtual meeting will be broadcast live on MITV Channel 21 and live streamed on the council’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/c/mercerislandcouncil.
At the meeting, council will proclaim Avi Schiffmann as the 2021 Community Member of the Year. While attending Mercer Island High School in March of 2020, Schiffmann built the nCoV2019.live website, which became one of the most popular information hubs tracking COVID-19 cases around the world. In March of 2022, he collaborated with a Harvard University classmate on the Ukraine Take Shelter website, which connects Ukrainian refugees with potential hosts in neighboring countries.
In the regular business portion of the meeting, council will delve into an ordinance amending Mercer Island’s criminal code section on domestic relations; code amendments related to allowed occupancy of homes, dwelling units and adult family homes; and finalizing the survey language and contents within the Climate Action Plan.
