Mercer Island homeowners who wish to plant a tree on their property may be eligible for a voucher to cover the cost of purchasing a tree through a city program in partnership with the Washington State Nursery and Landscape Association (WSNLA).
Residents that meet the application requirements are awarded a tree voucher to provide $150 toward purchasing a single tree or several smaller trees at any WSNLA nursery.
The city has posted criteria and more information at: https://www.mercerisland.gov/publicworks/page/tree-giveaway
“Trees have many benefits to our community: they cool the air, are foundational to healthy ecosystems, increase property values, slow stormwater runoff, and sequester carbon,” the city said, adding that tree planting is a priority in the Mercer Island Climate Action Plan (CAP).
