After completing projects last week paving a block of 80th Avenue S.E. in the Town Center and along 67th Avenue S.E. in the East Seattle neighborhood, the city’s street crew is working this week along West Mercer Way between S.E. 24th Street and S.E. 28th Street.
On Wednesday, crews will be patching and making minor changes that will include the widening of the roadway. According to city street engineer, Clint Morris, the work will happen even if it rains.
On Thursday, there will be pavement grinding over the full width and length of the project. Again, this work will occur even if it rains.
On Friday, the road will be paved one side at a time. But the city needs dry weather for this step.
Each day, crews will close one lane of West Mercer Way as a work zone and maintain alternating one-way traffic flow with flaggers. Drivers should expect some driving delays through this area and congestion at the S.E. 24th Street intersection when crews are working at that end of the project.
Work hours begin at 7:30 a.m. and extend to 5 p.m., with traffic control set-up starting around 7 a.m. Drivers should also expect a lot of dump truck traffic in the area on these days.
Homeowners along West Mercer Way have been notified of the work.
