The following list of changes to city services was provided by the City of Mercer Island.
Due to the continuing cold, the City of Mercer Island Maintenance Department will sand and plow in the neighborhoods throughout the afternoon to help clear the roadways of snow and ice. Weather forecasters are predicting continued freezing temperatures throughout the day, with snow possible tomorrow morning, followed by higher temperatures and rain.
Residents are advised to exercise caution when traveling around the Island.
The following changes to normal City operations and cancellations are under effect:
Community Center at Mercer View
The City of Mercer Island’s Community Center (CCMV) will be open on Wednesday, November 24 until 5 p. m. However, all regularly scheduled classes and programs are canceled.
The CCMV will be closed on Thanksgiving, Thursday, November 25, and open on Friday, November 26 from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. The CCMV will not hold regularly scheduled classes or programs on Friday.
Municipal Court
The Mercer Island Municipal Court closed at noon due to inclement weather.
The Court will reopen again after the Thanksgiving holiday weekend, on Monday, November 29 at 9 a.m.
Allied Waste Garbage Services
Allied Waste will not operate residential services in Mercer Island, Seattle, or the rest of the Eastside today due to dangerous road conditions.
If your residential service for garbage, recycling, or yard waste is not collected, Allied plans to provide double the regular amount to be picked up on your next regular collection day, as per the City’s contract with Allied.
If weather conditions prevent collection of garbage or recycling, please remove the containers from the street.
· Up to twice the regular amount of garbage and/or food & yard waste will be accepted at no additional charge on the next regularly scheduled collection day for each container. Excess materials due to missed collection can be put in a temporary container, such as a box or paper bag marked “Garbage,” “Recycling” or “Yard Debris. There is no limit on the amount of accepted recyclables for collection.
· No credit is given for delayed residential collection due to weather conditions, but up to twice the regular amount is accepted at no charge to compensate for the missed collection.
· If recycling or yard waste is regularly collected every other week, the missed material will be collected on the next scheduled day for that container (two weeks from the missed collection), unless residents are otherwise notified by telephone or via the Allied website.
Allied Waste Services will be closed for Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 25. Thursday’s customers will be picked up on Friday and Friday’s customers will be picked up on Saturday.
