The Mercer Island Police Department and the MI Communities That Care Coalition are teaming up for Drug Take Back Day on April 30. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on April 30 at the west entrance of City Hall, Islanders can bring medicines that will be disposed for free. Medications such as prescribed narcotics, prescription medications, medication samples, vitamins, inhalers and unopened Epipens will be accepted. Items that will not be accepted include: hydrogen peroxide, aerosol cans, used Epipens or iodine and mercury products. Last year, Mercer Island police collected almost 150 pounds of unwanted medications.
