District and union reach tentative agreement

Tentative agreement between Mercer Island Education Association and Mercer Island School District yet to be ratified by both parties.

After The Reporter’s deadline for the June 29 issue, The Mercer Island Education Association and Mercer Island School District bargaining teams reached a tentative agreement Tuesday on a new three-year contract after several months of negotiations.

 “Bargainers on both sides have done their best to represent every one’s interests,” said MIEA president Tani Lindquist.

The board of directors for the district meets Wednesday for their biannual retreat, at which time they are expected to discuss and possibly vote on the agreement during an exempt session.Early release days will remain unchanged for 2011-12. Details of the settlement will be forthcoming following ratification by both parties, which is expected in late August.
