The man who killed a former Island resident and dog trainer in October 2009 was sentenced Tuesday. Michiel Oakes, who was convicted in October was sentenced to 26 years and six months by Skagit County Superior Court Judge Michael Rickert for killing T. Mark Stover.
Stover, who grew up on the Island, went missing in the autumn 2009. Oakes said he killed Stover, the ex-husband of Oakes girlfriend, in self defense.
Oakes was found guilty of first degree premeditated murder.
Stover was a well known dog trainer to many Seattle celebrities, including Howard Schultz and the Mariners’ Ichiro.
Oakes sentence was the maximum allowed by law.
Stover’s body has not been found.
