DoxoINSIGHTS recently released its 2024 U.S. Household Bill Pay Report — which includes Mercer Island — that reveals that Americans spend a total of $3.35 trillion annually on household bills.
As covered by CNBC, the report also found that, the average American household spends approximately $2,126 a month, or $25,513 per year, on the 10 most essential household bills: Mortgage, rent, auto loans, utilities, health insurance, auto insurance, cable and Internet, mobile, alarm and security and life insurance.
On the local front, the report notes:
* The average Mercer Island household pays $3,515 a month, or $42,183 a year, for the 10 most common household bills.
* Mercer Island households spend 22% of their income on household bills.
* The household expenses in Mercer Island, on average, are 65.3% higher than the national average of $2,126, and 33% higher than the state average of $2,644.
* Mercer Island is the No. 9 most expensive city in Washington for household bills.
