Eastside Catholic invites the Island community to hear about its efforts to help needy schools in Africa. Fr. Lagho, the Vicar General and Superintendent of the Archdiocese of Mombasa Schools, will speak on the Island at 7:30 p.m. on May 8 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. The lecture will focus on the children of Bamba and their needs.
Two Islanders, Mary Margaret Welch and Nancy McCarthy, recently traveled to Bamba, Mombasa, Kenya, to establish a partnership with two sister schools, St. Mary’s Academy, a Catholic K-8 school, and Godoma Secondary, an Anglican/state 9-12 school, on behalf of Eastside Catholic School. A third Islander, Erin (Meyer) Vickers, will serve as a delegate this summer.
Bamba is one of the poorest regions in the world, though it is rich in spirit. The school hopes to raise awareness of this region’s need for education and raise funds for these schools.
