Maddie Brown, a Mercer Island resident, hangs out with Griffey, a 3-year-old Newfoundland owned by Dan and Helen Pyne, also of Mercer Island.

Griffey turned 3 last week and is fully grown. This “Newfie” weighs in at 180 pounds. Newfoundlands were once used as working dogs, helping fisherman pull nets in their original home in Newfoundland, Canada.
