Eastside Fire & Rescue (EF&R) firefighters, including staff from Mercer Island stations 91 and 92, participated in several advanced trainings over the past few months. Local staff and other partner agencies have continued training in preparation for light rail activity across the Island. Crews utilized special equipment to practice lifting a train if needed in an emergency (pictured). EF&R units also trained with Olympic Pipeline to ensure crews are prepared to identify and handle pipeline-specific emergencies. At each station within the EF&R network, crews were tasked with a simulated rescue of a worker from a vault that contained a possible gas leak. Three EF&R firefighters also completed initial swift water rescue technician training on the Snoqualmie River and they can now operate in moving water to conduct rescues safely. Additionally, members of the EF&R Technical Rescue team are now certified elevator rescue technician instructors. Photo courtesy of the city of Mercer Island
