There were no surprises on Friday when the No. 1 football team in the state, Bellevue, ran away with a 45-10 victory over the Islanders.
Bellevue wasted no time in getting the lead and then maintaining it as the team scored 31 unanswered points during the first quarter alone.
Mercer Island would give up all 45 of Bellevue’s points during the first half.
The Islanders scored their first points of the game during the third quarter on a Colton Knebel 27-yard field goal.
The Islanders would score a touchdown during the fourth quarter on a Ryan Blumenstein three-yard run with the game all but over.
Running away with the game was not just a cliche, either, as the Wolverines racked up 185 yards, rushing during the game to just 28 passing.
Mercer Island’s offense was balanced with 71 yards on the ground and 73 through the air.
The Islanders will regroup on Friday, when they travel to Mount Si for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
