Four Mercer Island firefighters finish annual Stairclimb

Four members of the Mercer Island Fire Department completed the 22nd annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on Sunday, March 10 at Seattle's Columbia Tower.

Four members of the Mercer Island Fire Department completed the 22nd annual Scott Firefighter Stairclimb on Sunday, March 10 at Seattle’s Columbia Tower.

The annual event raises money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Firefighters from around the state and world race up 69 flights of stairs, covering 1,311 steps and 788 feet of vertical elevation. There were 1,473 total participants this year, with 1,339 men and 134 women who completed the challenge.

Mercer Island’s Tommy Guttu had the fastest time in the department. He finished 43rd overall with a 14:31 time.

Kent Bastrom finished in 16:43 in 200th place, while Mark Givens was 271st in 17:29 and Trever Kissel was 311th in 17:50.

The top individual finished in 10:48.
