Friends of the Mercer Island Library book sale on tap

Special to the Reporter

Friends of the Mercer Island Library will hold its first book sale since the pandemic closed the library in 2020 from Dec. 8-11.

The sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dec. 8, 9 and 10, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Dec. 11. The library is located at 4400 88th Ave. SE.

More than a thousand books will be on sale on various topics. There will also be a selection of old and classic books, DVDs and CDs of all genres.

The Friends’ role is to generate funds for the Mercer Island branch of the King County Library System (KCLS). Funds raised are used to sponsor a variety of events and programs, such as author appearances, children’s story times, teen discussions, operas and more. The Friends also support library events by purchasing equipment for the library event.

Books sold at the sale are donated by local families and are collected year-round. The Friends report that generous donations by Island residents have provided an abundance of books and other media. Videos are available in all categories.

As a special added treat, the Friends and KCLS will provide a Christmas carol concert by The Dickens Carolers, who will perform in the library from 2-3 p.m. on Dec. 11.
